Venice Alfred Leonard, age 95, of Lakeshore Drive, Lexington passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Carolina House where he had lived since February of this year.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where he was a member with Rev. Howad G. Baker officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday night and at other times at the home of his daughter, Nikki Williams, 675 Yadkin College Road, Lexington.
Venice was born in Davidson County, November 30, 1916 to Robert Edward Leonard and Maude Shoaf Leonard. He worked for the Civil Service and was sent to Pearl Harbor shortly after it was bombed, during World War II and spent time there repairing ships and other equipment. He was a retired employee of Schlitz Brewery in Winston Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise Brown Leonard December 31, 2010; sister, Thelma Peck; brothers, Edward, Cecil, Paul and Jesse Lee Leonard.
Mr. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Nikki Leonard Williams and companion David Bean of Lexington; grandchildren, Angie Williams Crookenden and husband Ian, Jr. of Shanghai, China; Kris Williams and wife Charity of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Addison and Hadley Crookenden; Kane and Ben Williams; sister, Gilda Greer and husband Bruce of Lexington; sister- in-laws, Wilma Walser Leonard, Melba Beeker Leonard and Elise Brown all of Lexington; brother-in-law, Marshall Brown of Lexington.
