Vergie Crisp Monteith

Vergie Crisp Monteith, 93, of Heath Church Road, died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Holly Grove Lutheran Church, where she was a member, with Pastor John Mocko officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service and other times at the home. Mrs. Monteith was born November 8, 1917, in Swain County, to Andrew Miles Crisp and Sarah Pilkington Crisp. She was a former laundry supervisor at Centerclair nursing center. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Jackson Monteith; brothers, Vernon Crisp, Raymond Crisp and Carl Crisp; and sisters, Letha Curtis, Laura Snell, and Wenona Calhoun. Surviving are daughters, Burnette Monteith of the home and Barbara Conrad and husband, Aldean, of Lexington; grandchildren, Sherry Conrad Proctor and husband, Ted, Jack Conrad and wife, Teresa, Jim Conrad and wife, Rosaland, and Mike Willson and wife, Kendra; great-grandchildren, Jessica Proctor, Jon Proctor, Keeli Proctor, Jay Proctor, Brandi Conrad and Chrissy Conrad; sister, Pearl Cable of Bryson City; and sister-in-law, Daisy Crisp of Lexington.
