Vernal Elmer "Blue" Ballew, 71, of Oak Hollow Road, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westside Baptist Church by the Rev. Glenn Sanford.
Mr. Ballew was born in Gaston County on June 11, 1934, to Charles Edward Ballew and Dollie Stutton Ballew. He was retired from Dixie Furniture and was of the Baptist faith. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Jarvis; a sister, Sylva Land; and a granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Johnson.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Yarbrough Ballew of the home; two sons, Vernal Elmer Ballew Jr. of Southmont and Curtis Carr Ballew of Lexington; two stepsons, Willie Lee Saunders of Lexington and Timothy Scott Coe of Sophia; two daughters, Susan Ballew Thomason of Cooleemee and June Ballew Isaman of Cleveland; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Lee Ballew of Lexington; and three sisters, Constance Anderson of Statesville, Ruth Keller of Welcome and Nora Young of Oak Ridge.
