Vernon "Buz" Lewis Basham

Vernon "Buz" Lewis Basham, age 92, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 31, 1931, in Lillybrook, West Virginia, to Reverend Lenzie Basham and Glady Clark Basham. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he began his career with Piedmont/ US Airlines as a Sheet Metal Mechanic. Buz was a dedicated member of Unity Baptist Church.

He had a passion for woodworking, word searches, and working jigsaw puzzles with his daughter, Mandy, and buddy, Elary.

Buz is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia Adine Brooks Basham, two brothers Kenneth and David Basham, and three sisters, Linda Mae Basham, Shelby Keaton, and Alice Meadows.

He is survived by his three daughters, Donna Basham, Becky Cleveland (Michael), and Mandy Pennell (Kevin), a sister, Mary Grose, sisters-in-law, Virginia Basham and Linda Burton (Judge), and brother-in-law, Carl Meadows; as well as two grandchildren, Mikayla Cleveland (Zac Waldrep) and Alyssa Woodruff, three step-grandchildren Hunter Pennell, Dillon Pennell (Sara), and Kassidy Pennell, and three great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Andrew, and Atticus Hall.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Unity Baptist Church with Reverend Benny Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Buz’s daughters would like to thank the staff of Well Care Hospice and his private caregivers, Alyssa Woodruff and Karen Mock, for the exceptional care and support they shared with their father.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Buz's name to Unity Baptist Church.
