Veronica Jones Carter

Ms. Veronica Jones Carter, age 81, of Lexington, North Carolina died Friday, May 20, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

A celebration of life will be held at 2pm Sunday, June 12 at First Baptist Church of Welcome.   The family will greet friends following the service.

Ms. Carter was born September 28, 1940 in Appling County to the late Odis Jones and the late Willie Mae Courson Jones Webb.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Welcome, North Carolina and was retired from Pittsburg Plate Glass.  Ms. Carter was preceded in death by her sister, Voncile Lightsey; two brothers, John Willie Jones, and Clifton Jones, and a step-father, Herman Webb.

Survivors include her children, Tera (Mike) Davis, Gary (Penny) Carter, David (Laura) Carter, Darren Carter and Stacey (Sheryl) Carter all of Lexington, North Carolina, and their father Earnest “PeeWee” Carter; a sister, Elmira Bass of Baxley; brother-in-law, Richard “Squeak” Lightsey of Baxley. Ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral in Georgia was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown officiating.  Interment followed in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ross Taylor, Rodney Taylor, Richie Lightsey, Doug Bass, Andy Jones, and Dustin Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be all family and friends in attendance.
