Victoria Watkins Simmons, age 86 of Mt. Airy, formerly of Carolina House, Lexington passed away Thursday morning (11-27-2008) at Golden Living Center in Mt. Airy. Graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday (12-3-2008) at Forest Hill Memorial Park and burial will follow at Forest Hill.
She loved her God, family and extended family, and was born in Swain County, NC June 2, 1922 to John Alexander Watkins and Harriet Bowers Watkins. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Basil Simmons October 15, 1984, two sons,
Barry Simmons (10-27-2007 and Dale Simmons (03-27-2008) brothers, Albert, Hobart, Charlie, Dewey, Walter, Alex, Floyd, Jimmy, and Hanzy Simmons and a sister Dora Queen Davis.
Surviving are: two daughters, Shirley Rummage and husband Larry of Lexington and Donna Darrh and husband Mike of Mt. Airy; one son, Auburn “Kaye” Simmons of Tazewell, Virginia; Ten grandchildren, Rhonda Duncan and Wanda Rummage of Lexington, Clay and Mark Simmons of New Mexico, Scott Simmons, Vickie Buck and Joel Simmons all of Washington, Heather Simmons of New Mexico, Jon Simmons of Anchorage, Alaska and Meagan Simmons of Lexington; fourteen great grandchildren, Korbyn Duncan, Madison Simmons, Hyatt Simmons, Brittany Simmons, Cloe Simmons, Sydney Simmons, Hannah Buck, Dalton Buck, Cole Buck, Faith Buck, Elizabeth Simmons, Ryan Simmons, Nathan Simmons and Sarah Simmons; former daughter-in-law Joan Thacker of Bellingham, Washington; and a special friend, Sue Aldish of Lexington
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
