Viola Dennis Hamilton, 89, of Old Salisbury Road, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury after a brief illness.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Greers Chapel United Methodist Church by the Revs. Lori Ann Bowen and David Robinson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hamilton was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Rowan County to Jim Thomas Dennis and Minervie Ellen Dunn Dennis. She had worked at Coble Dairy and Manhattan Shirt Factory and had been a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of Greers Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Her husband, Hubert Hamilton, preceded her in death, as well as her sons, Donald Ray Hamilton and Richard Hamilton; her brothers, Arthur Dennis and Floyd Dennis; and her sisters, Lucille Brown and Mae Moses.
She is survived by her son, Larry Hamilton and his wife, Mary Jane, of Linwood; her daughter, Joyce Ann Shattuck and her husband, David, of Matthews; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great- grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Nelva Jean Hamilton.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son on Old Salisbury Road.
