Virgil "Pete" Conrad Leonard Jr.

Virgil Conrad “Pete” Leonard Jr., 68, of West Center Street Ext., died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with Revs. Dave Ambroso and Jimmy Norred officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Leonard was born August 14, 1942, in Nash County, to Virgil Conrad Leonard Sr. and Mittie Parrish Leonard. He was a former plant manager from Lexington Home Brands in Asheboro, and later retired from Lexington Home Brands Design Center in Lexington. Mr. Leonard was a graduate of North Carolina State University; at his church he served on the consistory, was a deacon, a choir member, and a member of the Men’s Brotherhood. In his spare time he was an avid golfer and fisherman. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Nifong Leonard of the home; daughter, Amy Parrish Leonard of Los Angeles, Ca.; sons, Wayne Briggs and wife, Cindy, Greg Briggs and wife, Sara, Chris Briggs and wife, Shannon, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Trey, Taylor, Thomas, Meredith, Jillian and Wyatt Briggs, all of Lexington; sister, Kaye Lewis of Fayetteville; niece and nephew, Robin Lewis Pellerin of Spanaway, Wa., and Bert Lewis of Hoover, Al.; and very special (23 year old) cat, Uss. Memorials may be made to Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ, 2791 West Center Street Extension, Lexington, NC 27295.
