Virginia Moore Barber, 87, of Lexington, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at Laurels at Highland Creek in Charlotte after declining health of several years. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by Dr. Lee Dukes III and Amy Clodfelter. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Barber was born in Meridian, Miss., to James Milton Moore and Georgia Hannah Moore. She was retired from the Lexington Retail Merchants Association as executive secretary with 24 years of service. She was Lexington's Woman of the Year in 1977 and served as secretary for the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, was an active member of First United Methodist Church and a longtime president of the Ladies Wesley Sunday School Class and president of the Wesley Sunday School Class. Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer Vaden Barber, who died Nov. 14, 2004. Surviving are her daughter, Judi Barber Brittain and her husband, Ralph, of Huntersville; two grandchildren, Jeff Brittain and his wife, Ashley, of Stokesdale and Hannah Cobb and her husband, Danny, of Julian; and four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan and Jacob Brittain and EmmaGrace Cobb. The family will receive friends following the service Wednesday.
