Virginia Francis Gibson, 91, of Woodhaven Drive, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Lexington Health Care.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Rummage and Rev. Billy Sosebee officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011, at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Mrs. Gibson was born October 6, 1919, in Detroit, Mi., to Jesse J. Francis and Silva Fern Grosscloude Francis. She was a graduate of University of Michigan and earned her Master’s degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Mrs. Gibson was also a retired teacher from Lexington City School System and a member of Second Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by grandson, Ward Gibson.
Surviving are her husband, Roland Gibson of the home; son, Alan Gibson and wife, Jane, of Beaufort, S.C.; grandchildren, Captain Scott Gibson of Hilton Head, S.C., and Patrick Gibson of Chapel Hill.
