Virginia Fritts Goodrum

Mrs. Virginia Dare Fritts Goodrum, 95, of Carolina House formerly of James Street, Lexington passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Carolina House. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Ray Howell III and Rev. Tommy Wilson. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Davidson Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service. Mrs. Goodrum was born December 29, 1917 in Cooleemee, N.C. to E.G. Fritts and Bula Simmons Fritts. She was a graduate of Reeds High School, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jasper F. Goodrum, Jr who was owner of Goodrum & Sons Electric Co. They were owners and operators of The Blue Surf Motel, Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Marlet S. Fritts, two sisters, Sylvia F. Leonard and Martha F. Kinney. Surviving are her daughter, Ann G. Lippard and her husband, Jim of Lexington; two sons. J. Felix Goodrum and his wife Denise of Roanoke, VA., and Marlet S. Goodrum and his wife, Shirley of Lexington; six grandchildren, Lisa L. Davis and her husband Tracy, Julie L. Barker and her husband Paul, Jamie L. Bell and her husband Allen, all of Lexington, Dr. Felicia Goodrum Sterling and her husband, Andrew of Tucson, Arizona, Chas F. Goodrum of Roanoke, VA., Amanda G. Staton and her husband, Jason of High Point, two step-grandsons, Derek Cundiff and Jon Reynolds, both of Roanoke, Va. Eight great-grandchildren, Chris Davis and wife, Linda of High Point, Lucas Davis and wife, Beth of Lexington, Neil Barker of Lexington, and Morgan Bell, of Charlotte, Holland Flood and Maya Flood, both of Tucson, Arizona, Chase Whittington and Jacob Whittington, both of High Point; two great-great granddaughters, Peyton Davis, and Savannah Davis both of Lexington, and Teighlor Charrier of High Point; Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
