Virginia Hartman

Virginia Dare Craver Hartman, 93, of 3347 Welcome-Arcadia Road, died Saturday February 23, 2013 at the Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 27 at Enterprise Moravian Church with the Revs. Arkon Stewart and Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Hartman was born September 14, 1919 in Davidson County to James Samuel Craver and Bessie Lee Shoaf Craver. She was a graduate of Arcadia High School and Women’s College of University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught in the Forsyth County and Davidson County Schools for 25 years and then was a librarian for the Davidson County Schools for 15 years, before retiring in 1980. She was a lifetime member of Enterprise Moravian Church and Sunday school where she served as a teacher in the Children’s Department. She was a member of the Bible Class and Women’s Fellowship of Enterprise Moravian Church. She was a former member of the Lexington-Davidson County retired School Personnel Association, the Lexington Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Lexington Civinette Club, the 55 and over Club of Mt. Olivet Church, the North Carolina Retired School Personnel Organization, the Lexington Music Club, the Club of Golden Years, the Women’s Council of the Farm Bureau, and the Senior Adult Choir of First Baptist Church, Lexington. She was past president of the Arcadia Home Extension Club, the Davidson County Council of Home Extension, and the Northern Piedmont Area Development Association. She also delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a current member of the Frady-Johnson Mission Group and the Frady Birthday Club. Mrs. Hartman was preceded in death by her husband, Olin G. Hartman. She is survived by her daughter, Belinda Thomas and husband, Edgar A. Thomas Jr., of Lexington, and grandchild, Edgar A. Thomas III of Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Enterprise Moravian Church, in care of Cathy Tesh, 1457 Craver Road, Lexington NC 27295.
