Mrs. Virginia Rosemary Washburn Katen, age 96 of South Main Street, Lexington, NC passed away Wednesday, November 27 at Hinkle Hospice House after five months of declining Health.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, December 3 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Brian Rummage. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Iris Mauney.
Mrs.Katen was born in Lexington on May 30, 1917, to Thomas Comer Washburn and Bettie Mae Beck Washburn. Her husband Foy Lee Katen passed away in 1984. Virginia was a long-time, faithful and dedicated member of Second Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church and a member of the Ladies’ Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by brothers, E.J., Frank, Archie, and Wiley Daniel Washburn; and sister, Eunice Carpenter, Hester Wallwork and Nancy Wallace.
Survivors include sisters, Gloria G. Washburn, Iris W Mauney and husband, Tom all of Lexington, and sister-in-laws, Frances Washburn of Matthews and Margaret Everette of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
