Virginia Kearns

March 17, 1923 — October 27, 2013

Mrs. Ida Virginia Cody Kearns, age 90 of Brookstone Retirement Center, and formerly of Old Linwood Road, Lexington, NC passed away early Sunday 10-27-2013 at Brookstone. A graveside service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Hwy 8, conducted by the Reverend’s Brian Alexander, and Lamar Moore. Following the burial, a Celebration of life Service will be held in the Church sanctuary and the family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Kearns was born in Davidson County, on March 17, 1923 to Harris Leonard Cody and Rosa Ann Cross Cody. Virginia graduated from Ashemore Business School. She retired in 1988 as a bookkeeper from Proctor-Schwartz in Lexington. She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church for 76 years and had served in many positions including assistant secretary of church, G A Leader, Sunday school teacher as well as serving as treasurer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; Eddie Thomas Kearns, her husband of 68 years, Marvin L. Kearns Jr., her brother; Perlie Cody, her sisters; Bertha Coppley, Nola Coppley, and Ila (Sis) McCarn. She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Kearns Regan and husband Howard L. Regan of High Point, one grandson; Jonathan Lee Regan and wife Leslie Hill Regan, and one great granddaughter; Kennidi Elizabeth Regan, all of Lexington. Also surviving is a sister Margaret Coppley and husband Hoyle Coppley, and a brother; Odis William (Bunny) Hill and wife Virginia all of Lexington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The body will be at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington after 12:00PM on Tuesday for anyone who wishes to view Mrs. Kearns. Virginia’s main focus was always on her family and church. The family would like to thank all the faithful who visited her and the staff of Brookstone for the care and love shown to her.
