Virginia Mitchell Lebouef

Virginia Louise Hunt Mitchell LeBouef, 87, passed away June 5, 2011, surrounded by three generations of her family. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday (June 11, 2011) at Lexington City Cemetery with Dr. Anthony Mitchell, Phd. officiating.  Burial will follow. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Friday. She was preceded in death by her husband Maj. Robert J. Mitchell (USAF, RET), her husband Wayne A. LeBouef, her fiancé Bernie Kunkel, and her daughter Marguerite.  She was a long time member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, and sang with the Bartlett Community Chorus for many years. She was active at the Senior Center, and an avid bowler, having participated in 34 consecutive Women’s National Bowling tournaments.  Her team won the 1964 Women’s National Amateur Bowling Championship.  She graduated from Lexington High School in 1941 and started her working career as a secretary with the War Department General Staff, headquartered in The Pentagon, Washington, DC, and was one of a very select group of secretaries to be cleared for TOP SECRET material.  She was also a secretary with the United States Engineering Department in Minden, Germany just after the close of WWII.  She became a stay-at-home mom for her four children until her youngest was in high school.  She then continued her career with the William B. Tanner Co, later Media General, and Miles of Countertops. She leaves four children:  Tony Mitchell (Ann) of Beacon, NY; Terry Mitchell (Stephanie) of Centennial, CO; Tim Mitchell (Dee) of Bartlett, TN; Tracey Rock (Donald) of Bartlett, TN; 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Bartlett Community Chorus, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, the Bartlett Senior Center, or the Air Force Aid Society.
