Virginia Wise Smith, age 97 of Alston Brook formerly of Shoaf Street, Lexington passed away Sunday morning at Alston Brook Nursing Home after 2 years of declining health.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston Salem. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
Virginia was born in Rowan County, January 28, 1917 to Charles Franklin and Maggie Selena Gaskey Wise. She was a retired employee of Duracell and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Lloyd Smith in 1953; sisters, Mary Peeler and Mildred Nance; brothers, Daniel, George, Hubert and James Wise; and her special canine companion, Joy.
Surviving are her daughters, Frances Ashby and Margo Tysinger (Ralph) all of Lexington; grandchildren, Julie Kay Price of Lexington, Lisa Price of Luguna Beach, CA, and Alan Tysinger; (Cindy) of Pleasant Garden; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Wise Hedgecock (Ralph) of Kernersville.
The family would like to thank the staff of Alston Brook for the compassionate care given to Mrs. Smith during her stay at the nursing home.
