Virginia Shoaf Tate

Mary Virginia Shoaf Tate, 91, of formerly of Linwood Southmont Road, died Saturday March 18, 2017, at Alston Brook Nursing Home where she was a resident.  A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at Jersey Baptist Church where she was a member, with the Revs. Dr. Mike Collier and Matt Riggsbee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 pm at the church multipurpose center.  Mrs. Tate was born July 30, 1925 in Rowan County to Edgar Eugene Shoaf and Gertrude Shives Shoaf. She was retired from the Davidson County School System. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Harold Armstead Tate.  Surviving are two sons, Wayne Tate and wife Donna and Dennis Tate and wife Teresa, both of Lexington; one daughter, Patsy Hilliard and husband Roger; one sister, Betty Overcash and husband Curtis; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Alston Brook Nursing Home for their loving care for Virginia.   Memorials may be made to Jersey Baptist Church, 2920 Jersey Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
