Vivian Armentia Bates, age 96 of Arbor Acres, Winston Salem, formerly of Hoover Road, Lexington passed away Sunday afternoon at Arbor Acres.
Funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday at Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Pillsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday night.
Vivian was born in Davidson County, July 9, 1918 to Richard Baxter and Zella Sowers Bates. Vivian attended Brevard College; was a house parent with the Junior Order Home, the Jesse Lee Home in Anchorage, AK and worked for The Children’s Home in Winston Salem; was a member of Center United Methodist Church in Welcome, member of the United Methodist women, former Sunday School teacher and a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Richard (R.L.) Bates; sister, Evelyn Kirk.
Surviving are a sister, Metzell Schroll of Kansas; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Ruby Bates, and many special children she nurtured while working in children’s home.
