Vivian Mae King Owen

December 22, 1935 — November 29, 2024

Vivian Mae King Owen, 88, of Surry County, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024.

There are no formal services at this time.

Vivian was born on December 22, 1935, in Rockingham County, to the late Oscar King and Hattie Lee Parrish King.  Her life was a tapestry woven with her career as a skilled seamstress and her love for cross-stitch and embroidery, where every thread told a story of passion and artistry.

Music held a dear place in her heart, and she expressed this joy through her talent on the piano and through dancing. Elvis Presley was among her favorite musicians, and she cherished the unforgettable experience of seeing him perform live on multiple occasions.

Vivian is fondly remembered for her exceptional cooking, a true hallmark of Southern tradition. Her family adored everything she made, from collard greens and golden cornbread to an array of sweet desserts. Among her many beloved dishes, her chicken and dumplings stood out as a family favorite, cherished for its comforting warmth and love with which it was cooked.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Harrelson; and three sisters, Agnes King, Marie Goodwin, and Sylvia Smith.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Becky Cantrell (Timothy), of Lexington; son, Jimmy Stanley (Sharon), of Trinity; four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren and one on the way.
