William Evan Grubb, age 68 of Jerusalem Road, Lexington went home to be with his heavenly father on April 23, 2007, following a courageous battle with lung and bone cancer.
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church by the Dr. Keith Carroll and Pastor Carroll Upton.
Mr. Grubb was born in Davidson County on May 30, 1938 to John Grubb and Ida Mae Hill Grubb. He was a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a basketball, baseball and football coach to many young players in the Silver Valley community for many years. Giving of his time and energy unselfishly he led his basketball team to county championships. He truly loved doing this and young men whose lives he touched still came back to thank him and tell him what it had meant to their lives. He truly loved visiting his brother and sister-in-law’s cabin, Bonnie and Steve Gallimore on the New River in Va. To wade and fish the river, nothing made him happier or smile more than to hold up a stringer of fish! His other hobbies were traveling to Mexico and he was hoping to make one more trip to Baja, Mexico to visit many friends, which sadly he was unable to do. He was an avid Nascar race fan, especially Dale Earnhardt, #3. He also loved watching UNC play basketball. He attended Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville and loved his church and pastors and was very sad when the time came he could no longer attend. He loved his grandchildren, spending time with them and watching them play sports and swimming in the pool. He was a life member of Amvets Post 240 in Denton, serving as Post Commander several times as well as other offices and committees at the local and state level. He served as delegate to the Amvets National Conventions, which were held all over the country for 20 years. He also gave service to the Salisbury Veterans Administration going with other amvets and playing bingo with patients. The love of his many friends and family was evident in the care and concern that was showered upon him during his illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Grubb formerly of the Cid community; four sisters, Magdelene Jarrell, Odessa Floyd, Patty Hunt, formerly of Lexington, and Nancy Nance formerly of Phoenix, AZ; and one brother, Tommy Grubb, formerly of Phoenix, AZ.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Greta Gallimore Grubb; two daughters, Glori Grubb Marion and friend, Siamak, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Laura Grubb Grimmett and friend Greg, of Denton; one son, Timothy Evan Grubb and friend, Debra, of Senatobia, MS; six wonderful grandchildren, Zackary and Anna Thompson, and Kaleigh Grimmett, Matthew Marion, William Evan Grubb-Greene, Amber Grubb; and one step-granddaughter, Kristal Paluski; one brother, Richard Grubb of Jamestown; one aunt, Alma Russell of High Point; special nieces, Brenda Summey, Wanda Parrish and Janet Grubb; special nephews, Tommy Darrell Grubb and wife, Phyllis, all of Lexington, and Rodney Grubb and wife, Mary, of Phoenix, AZ; plus several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much; sisters-in-law, Opal Grubb of Phoenix, Az., Claudette Bevan and husband, Frank; brothers-in-law, Tildon Floyd of Trinity, Steve Gallimore and wife, Bonnie, of Reedy Creek, Paul Yates and wife, Dean, of Denton, Gene Nance and wife, Beverly, of Phoenix, Az., who were special friends whom we visited many times in our travels. Janice and Terry Pop of Grand Rapids were also special friends whom we met during our travels. Our very special friends who also gave care and comfort to us were Ruthie and Mary Ann Medlin, Todd Yates and Leigh Hughes.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, 222 Mt. Zion Church Road, Thomasville, NC 27360.
