Wallace "Wally" Reid Penland

Wallace Reid “Sonny” Penland, age 88 of Piedmont Crossing formerly of Wall street, Lexington passed away Sunday evening, February 4, 2018. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Michael Greer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:30 at Davidson Funeral Home prior to the graveside service. Sonny was born in Gaston County, NC August 19, 1929 to William Franklin Penland and Ollie May Leonard Penland. He was a graduate of Lexington High School, Class of 1948,he was of the Baptist faith, a retired employee of Lexington Furniture, Dixie Plant and a veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Amy Croxdale Penland; brother, Bobby Penland; sister, Modolan Burhart, brother-in-law, Bryce Burkhart and step-father, Charles Workman. Surviving are, 6 nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Sonja Penland. Special recognition to the staff of Piedmont Crossing for their love and care given to Sonny during his stay.
