Mr. Walter Marion Fulp, Jr. age, 87, formerly of Ridgecrest Drive, Lexington passed away Saturday (October 30, 2010) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Palliative Care in Winston Salem. Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday (November 3, 2010) at First Presbyterian Church of Lexington conducted by Dr. Lee Zehmer. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mr. Fulp was born October 17, 1923 in Guilford County to Walter Marion Fulp and Nancy Ann Marshall Fulp. He was a certified public accountant and retired as Vice President of Finance at Mid State Tile Company in Lexington. Mr. Fulp faithfully served his country in World War II, as a Master Sergeant in the 127th Infantry, 32nd Division, US Army, including two years in the South Pacific. He was a longtime member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Treasurer. He was also a former member of Optimist Club of Lexington and served as Lt. Governor for Optimist International. Mr. Fulp was past president of the Lexington YMCA. He was a commissioner of the Unwharrie Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was elected a member of the Order of the Arrow. His wife, Mary Catherine Land Fulp, preceded him in death on May 8, 2008.
He is survived by his daughter; Catherine Anne Fulp Friday and husband, Paul, of Jacksonville, NC; his son; Walter M. Fulp, III and wife, Cathy, of Lexington, two grandchildren; Laura Ann Fulp and David Walter Fulp; one brother, Kenneth Elwood Fulp of Norfolk, VA.
