Walter Smith Humphries

Walter Smith Humphries, 77, of Canary Dr., Lexington died Thursday, July 26, 2012 in WFBH-Lexington Medical Center after a period of declining health. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at Lexington City Cemetery with Rev. Dolan Taylor officiating. Burial will follow with Military Graveside rites by the Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2012 at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Humphries was born March 14, 1935 in Guilford County to Garland C Humphries and Winnie Smith Humphries. He was retired from the Lexington Post Office and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Walter was a veteran of the US Coast Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Walter Wayne Humphries. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Glenn Humphries of the home; a son, George Harrison Humphries and wife Amanda of Southmont; seven grandchildren, Jesse Lee Humphries, Savannah Humphries, Maria Humphries, Alyssa Hughes, Joshua Humphries, Salem Humphries, Christa Humphries; a brother, Rev. Doland Taylor Humphries of Lexington and a sister, Lois Kraft of Springfield, VA
