Walter "Ray" Owens

Walter Ray Owens, age 81, of Southmont passed away Sunday (August 21, 2011) at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Palliative Care. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at Central Baptist Church with Revs. Ryan Bennett; Billy Sloop and Fred Carlton officiating The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Ray was born in Davidson County, November 13, 1929 to Walter Ruffy Owens and Minnie Beane Owens. He was a member of Central Baptist Church; a retired employee of Henry Link Furniture; a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and a Ranger with the Boy Scouts, Old North State Council. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Owens. Surviving are; his wife, Joan Watkins Owens of the home; two daughters, Amy Berkshire and husband Stan of Salisbury and Michelle Hicks and husband Dean of Asheboro; one son, Walter “Waldo” Owens of Southmont; five grandchildren, Amanda McKenzie, Cody Tyler, Aaron and Thomas Loy and Michael Hicks; two great-grandchildren, Dazyon Poag and Zayden Mills.
