Walter Thomas “Tommy” Cox, 75 of Bedford Drive, Lexington passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 at his home following a sudden illness.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday at Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Sechrest officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post 3074.
Mr. Cox was born on July 23, 1934 in Davidson County to Charles Issac Cox and Carrie Hedrick Cox. He was a retired truck driver with Hedgecock Builders and was a member of Rolling Heights Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Cox served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict, was also a member of the Marine Corp Legion, VFW Post 3074 and the
American Legion. Preceding him in death was his wife Shelby Jean Lucado Cox, a son
Richard Robertson and a brother Charles Issac Cox, Jr.
Surviving are a son Kenneth Robertson of Lexington; daughters Linda James and husband Carlton of Lexington and Phyllis Chavers and husband Dwayne of Linwood; grandchildren Jacob James, Emily James, Nick Chavers and fiancé Cindel Bottsford, Kristin Chavers, Andrew Robertson, Adam Robertson, Tabitha Story and Shawn Donaldson; three great-grandchildren; sisters
Bessie Blackwell and husband Walter, Margaret Leonard and husband Robert and Donna Cox all of Lexington, Myrtle Elmore of Greensboro, Ollie Gilliland and husband Doyle and Blanche Lashley both of FL and Joyce Coppley and husband Jimmie of Southmont.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel.
