Walter Kyle Wilkes

Walter “Kyle” Wilkes went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 28 at the age of 52 surrounded by his family and friends.  Kyle was born on September 23, 1971, to Tom and Dena Wilkes of Midway.  He graduated from North Davidson High School, Class of 1990.  He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart April Dawn Phelps on November 26, 1994.

Kyle worked for Davidson Water, Inc. for 29 years.  He had a true passion for his job and loved his co-workers.  Kyle was a fix-it man and jack of all trades.  Kyle loved spending time with his family and friends, especially April and their son Dylan.  Kyle loved sports!!!  He played about all of them at some point in his life.  He loved coaching teams, especially teams that Dylan played on.  He loved golf! He was a “HUGE” Tarheel fan and loved the Atlanta Braves.

Kyle was preceded in death by his father, Tom Wilkes, and all of his grandparents.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, April Wilkes, and son Dylan Wilkes, of the home, his mother Dena Wilkes, mother-in-law, Donna Phelps, father-in-law, Tim Phelps (Tena), his brothers, Brad Wilkes (Crystal), Chris Wilkes (Vickie), and Gerry Wilkes.  His sister-in-law Amanda Covington (Jeff), and brother-in-law Kyle Phelps (Amanda).  His nieces and nephews, Amber Allen (Ryan), Heather Stanley (Josh), Nathan Wilkes, C.J. Wilkes (Maggie), Bradley Wilkes (Abby), Brandon Wilkes (Angelica), Sarah Covington, Logan Phelps Koonts, and Reid Phelps.  Kyle was also blessed with 8 great-nieces and nephews, Cadence, Emmy, Rockwell, Hailey, Luke, Leah, Roe, Camden, and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 6 – 8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Midway Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Gardner officiating.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Kyle’s name to The Crohn’s Disease Association.
