Walter Lohr Younts, age 87, peacefully passed away on April 1, 2024 surrounded by his family at the Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County.
A hardworking and loving man, Lohr was as devoted to his family as they were to him. He married his high school sweetheart, Mintie Frank, until her passing in 1995. He was blessed to have found love again with Linda Cooper Younts in 1997. After a church bus trip together, they bonded over their love of everything onion.
Born June 30, 1936, in Lexington, NC to his late parents, Walter Grant Younts and Mary Lohr Younts, he graduated from Davis-Townsend High School in 1954. He worked many years in manufacturing, retiring from Proctor & Schwartz in 2000.
One of Lohr’s most precious gifts was his hospitality and generosity. He was a wood craftsman and enjoyed building things for others. No one left his home without being offered something to eat, or at the very least, a sack of his garden tomatoes during the growing season. Not only did his family enjoy the fruits of his labor, but he also loved sharing with his friends and neighbors
In the summers, he always looked forward to the annual family beach trip and would open up “Grandpa’s Ice Cream Shop”. He always went out of his way to make his grandchildren feel special.
An avid sports fan, you could always find him cheering on the Duke Blue Devils and the Atlanta Braves. It was rare he missed watching a game!
He was a member of Beck’s Reformed Church, regularly attended the Men’s Sunday School Class, and enjoyed The Men’s Gatherings.
Lohr’s love for his family knew no boundaries and his memories will be cherished by all those that loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Cooper Younts of the home; his son, Tim Younts (Lou Anne) of Concord, NC; his daughter, Jan Hanes of Lexington, NC; his son Brent Younts (Tammy) of Kernersville, NC; his grandchildren Michelle Phillips (Jon), David Younts, Haley Carter (David), John Hanes and Grant Younts; his great-grandchildren Parker Phillips, Salem Phillips, and Wes Carter. He is also survived by his step-children, Craig Cooper (Laurie), Laurinda Cooper, Tracy Everhart (Rex), Melanie Yarborough and Todd Cooper; his step-grandchildren Cole Yarborough (Nick), Lindsay Brewer (Ray), Leighanne Brinkle (Chad), and Ariel Everhart (Larche); his step-great-grandchildren Logan Yarborough, Cooper Yarborough, Emilia Brinkle and Isla Ward.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers Lindsay, Toby and Bruce; two sisters, Mildred Craver and Laura Surratt.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11am Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Beck’s Reformed Church by Reverend Steve Regan. Burial to follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
