Wayne Burkhart

Bobby Wayne Burkhart,74 , of Tyro Heights Road, died Saturday, August 4 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, August 8 at First Baptist Church of Welcome, by the Rev. Mark Blair.  Burial will follow in church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Mr. Burkhart was born July 2, 1944 in Davidson County to Olin Elwood Burkhart and Eloise Hinshaw Burkhart.  He was a salesman for Burkhart Distributing for 45 years in Salisbury.  He had a special way of reaching people and a gift that will be missed.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome and a former member of the Churchland Baptist Church Choir. He was an avid beach lover and enjoyed listening to beach music by the shore.  He was a people person and never met a stranger.  He loved his family and enjoyed time with them.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Gail Childress Burkhart of the home; his son, Michael Burkhart (Karyn) of Clemmons; his daughters, Tracey Thayer (Ron) of Wilmington and Kelly Cobb (Paul) of Clemmons; his brothers, Jerry Burkhart (Jerri) and Jack Burkhart, (Beverly), both of Lexington; his sister, Jean Green (Johnnie) of Mocksville; and his grandchildren, Tyler Thayer (Kelli), Lauren Thayer, Cameron Thayer, Rachel Cobb, Frederick Cobb, Alec Burkhart, and Bryce Burkhart.
