Wayne Lee Jones

Wayne Lee Jones, of Clayton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at BellaRose Nursing Home and Rehab.

Born on January 25, 1943, to Rufus and Martha Jones, Wayne lived a life defined by devotion to his family and a deep love of the outdoors. He was a dedicated son, husband, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Wayne found joy sitting quietly outdoors, while taking in nature or people watching, or visiting the beach. His kind spirit, steady presence, and love for family created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to share in his life.

Along with his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Swicegood Jones; daughter, Carol Hunt; brothers, Pete Jones, Johnny Jones, and Gene Jones; and sisters, Katy Whitaker, Ruth Wilson, Jo Smith, and Thelma Reavis.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Cathy Davis (William) and Karen Little; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren and one on the way, and a very special friend Louise Williams.

A service honoring Wayne’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Tyro Methodist Church, with Rev. Randy Foster officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
