Forrest Wayne Owens, 78, of Lexington, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at Hospice of Davidson County.

There will be no formal service at this time.

Mr. Owens was born March 15, 1945, in Davidson County, to Forrest Cleveland and Cleo Dowell Owens. Wayne was married to Irene Danuff Owens of the home since June 28th, 1999.

He was the oldest of 3 children and is leaving behind a brother Gary L. Owens and wife Bonnie, and a sister Debbie Owens Moffitt and husband Ron.

In addition to his parents, Forrest was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Bailey all from Southmont.

When Wayne decided he was ready to do some fishing on the other side of the pearly gates, he left behind a huge family who will miss him so much.  He has 5 children; Dawn Owens Johnson (Jason) of Southmont, Dwayne Owens (Julie) of Reeds, Shane Owens of South Carolina, Stephanie Owens (Brandon Martineau) of Lexington and Ryan Bailey of the home.  Also surviving are his 10 Grandchildren, Shawn Owens (Michelle), Jacklyn Taylor (James), Drew Johnson (Kayla), Seth Owens, Lydia Owens, Zyler Wilks, Zalah Martineau, Zaylon Martineau, Abel Leftwich, and Braylon Bailey.  11 Great-Grandchildren, Jacob Owens, Kaleb Owens, Emma Owens, Emberly Owens, Mahala Darnell, Kayson Ray Hudson Wyatt, James Taylor Jr “JT”, Baby Ryiah Taylor, Connor Johnson and Kamber Johnson.

Wayne grew up and settled down in Southmont, NC.  He started and ran his own concrete finishing business “F. Wayne Owens Concrete” till his retirement.

He answered to many names, Big O, copperhead, Dad, Daddy, and sweetheart.

Wayne loved anything outdoors; fishing, boating, camping, lake life and sunshine in general.  He enjoyed hunting until he got to an age then he enjoyed taking pictures of what he used to love hunting.  He enjoyed riding 4 wheelers with his boys and his wife then one day he traded that hobby in for golf carts and a gator to ride on in the yard.

Wayne has always loved CB radios and made many close friends while talking on them. He had a tough guy side personality but when it came to the people he cared for he showed his soft side and loved them without limits.

Wayne will be missed so much by his family and friends and by his two pups, “Cocoa” and “Bella”
