Weldon Gilbert Parks, age 92 of North County Home Road, Lexington died Thursday
night at Lexington Memorial Hospital after several months of declining health.
The funeral will be 2 pm Sunday, May 6 at Second United Church of Christ, where he was a member, by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074.
Mr. Parks was born in Davidson County December 28, 1914 to William Jacob Parks and Annie B. Crotts Parks. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in the Pacific, during World War II; member VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8 and DAV Chapter 39, Masonic Lodge #473, Past Master and Certified Third Degree Lecturer, a Scottish Rite Shriner (Oasis Temple), retired employee of PPG, and a member of the men’s bible class at his church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clay Parks and Baxter Parks sisters, Ruby Hammann and Lois Parks; great-grandchild, Lainey McCarn; and sister-in-law, Ethel Parks.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Parks of the home; son, Steve Parks and wife, Glenda; daughter, Jeanne McCarn and husband, Kent; brother, Donald Parks and wife, Peggy; sisters, Mary Lee Smith and husband, Edmund, Connie Williams and husband, Andy; sister-in-law, Jewel Parks; grandchildren, Travis McCarn and wife, Tanya, Josh McCarn and wife, Whitney, Jill Shoaf and husband, Brad, Candace Parks and fiancé, Dustin Bills, Lauren Fuller, and Michael Parks; and Great-grandchildren, Logan McCarn, Evan McCarn, Connor Shoaf, Carlee Shoaf, and Brock McCarn.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel and other times at the home.
