Weldon Alexander Smith

July 13, 1925 — October 9, 2015

Weldon Alexander Smith, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend died at the Hinkle Hospice House on October 9, 2015 at the age of 90 years. He had been in declining health for some time. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Reeds Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Revs. Henry Watterson, Dave Williams, and Brian Sink officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Smith was born July 13, 1925, to Noah A. Smith and Lessie Snyder Smith, in Davidson County. Growing up he worked on his father’s farm and attended Reeds School, served in the US Army, worked for Sheriff W.G. Fritts on his farm and later in Mr. Fritts’ boot and reliner business, in Tyro recycling tires. He would later purchase and rename it Wel-Done Products. He was an honest businessman and farmer who loved God with all his heart. He was a former Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon at Reeds Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorene Shoaf (Corbet also deceased) and brother, Gene Smith. Loving daughter, Myra Leonard and beloved grandson, Tim B. Grubb. Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Lola Slaydon Smith; five children, Joyce Grubb (Foy), Junie Smith (Reta), Laura Hemphill (Rick), Lesia Reudelhuber (George), David Smith (Kim),bother-in-law, Max Leonard all of Lexington; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer Rosecrans (Ben), Tim’s widow, Cathy, Michael Leonard (Shelly), Matthew Leonard, Meredith Pope, Chrissy Tribley (Tom), Angie Hutchins (Barry), Karrie Sink (Mark), Robert Weldon (Heather), Brian Sink (Christy), Rusty Sink (Rebecca), Spencer Reudelhuber (special friend, Madison), Auston Reudelhuber (Rachel), Amanda Elmore, Jeb Alexander Smith (special friend, Hailee), and Mattie Smith; 26 great-grandchildren, Alex Grubb, Mackenzie Hall, Keaton Turrentine, Salem Turrentine, Janeice Leonard, Brianna Leonard, Thomas Weldon Leonard, Kristen Pope, Kip Pope, Noah Tribley, Sierra Hutchins, Monica Hutchins, Sarah Sink, Josh Sink, Lauryn Sink, Morrigan Hively, Mason Weldon Hatfield Smith, Caleb Sink, Michael Sink, Darren Sink, Jenna Sink, Kaitlyn Sink, Wyatte Weldon Sink, Addie Reudelhuber, Kyler Elmore, Korbin Elmore; special niece and spouse, Twyla and Kirby Sechriest; brothers and sisters, Evelyn Sink (JE Sink, Jr. deceased), Jack Smith (Sylvia Rae), Jo Carol Smith; sister-in-law, Pattie Payne (Richard), Nolan Smith (Sue) of Lexington and Betty Chloe Campbell (Bruce) of Morganton. Special thank you to caregivers, Cindy Evans, Amanda Garcia, Jean Gooch, Connie Tysinger, Kristi Parks, Jillian Bolyard, Alex Garcia, Julie Mize and Carol Lawrence. Hospice and Hinkle Hospice House, special thanks to everyone there for all the support and help with Daddy.
