Wesley "Red" Vestal Murphy

Wesley Vestal "Red" Murphy, 80, of East Homestead Drive, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Alston Brook of Lexington. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Forest Hill Memorial Park by Dr. Billy Joe Leonard. Mr. Murphy was born in Davidson County on May 17, 1926, to Doy Murphy and Minnie Savannah Massey Murphy. He was a retired carpenter with C.J. Kearns Contractors of Greensboro and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Colleen Byerly. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Michael Murphy of the home; two sons, D. Ray Murphy and W. Reid Murphy and his wife, Julie, all of Lexington; two daughters, Linda Lopp and her husband, Robert, of Lexington and Ann Hobach and her husband, John, of Seminole, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Marc Murphy, Jason Murphy, Dan Lopp, Michael Lopp, J.P. Hobach, Paul Hobach, Bill Hobach and Amanda Murphy; and two great-grandsons, Drew and Kaden Murphy. The family will receive friends at home.
