Wilbur Beals Smith, 93, known to family and friends as "Will", of Morehead City and formerly of Woodlawn Drive, Lexington, died in the early morning of December 6th at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. David Shaffer and Evangelist Jimmy Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. A second memorial service will take place at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
He was highly respected among the members of his local Philadelphia Chapter-the Steamfitters and Pipewelders Union # 420. After his retirement, he moved to Morehead City to live and be with his sons. He quickly became an active member of the Church of Christ and shared God's word with everyone. He met and married Marie Wimbish, and acquired a new family. He was an avid outdoorsman and his greatest enjoyment was being on the golf course. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Garfield and Donna Reece Smith, two brothers, John and Joseph Smith and one sister, Katrine White.
He is survived by his wife Marie James Smith of the home and three children, Dee and husband Jim Battisti of Pennsylvania, Barry Smith of Morehead City and David and his wife Bonnie of Newport; three step-children, Katrina Minter of Morehead City, Robin Allred of Winston Salem and Chris Rector of Georgia; sister, Barbara Oakes of Greensboro and brother David Smith, of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, including a special great granddaughter, Chloe Joy, four step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Woodlawn Drive.
