Wilburn Eli Long, 82, of Old Thomasville Road, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Britthaven of Davidson after an illness of one month.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Canaan United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Jay Whitley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Long was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Davidson County to Sammy Leonard Paul Long and Lensie Craver Long. He was a retired employee of Western Electric and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by an infant son; a daughter-in-law, Paula S. Long; a stepbrother, Coy Swicegood; and two sisters, Vada Swicegood Bost and Geneva Long.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Clodfelter Long of the home; two sons, David Eli Long and Sammy Kay Long and his wife, Carolyn, all of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Naomi Brisendine of Texas, Betty Jean Hall of Lexington and Edna Mae Gordon of Clemmons; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, and other times at the home.
