Wiley Elson Nifong

Winston-Salem - October 7, 1937 – July 10, 2016 - Wiley Elson Nifong, 78, passed away on Sunday, July 10th. He was born on October 7th at home in Midway. He was preceded in death by his parents Hobert & Treva Nifong, and his brother, Luther Nifong. He is survived by his wife, Gudi Nifong, daughter, Heidi Luongo, daughter, Kim Damron (Scott), son, Wiley “Sohni” Nifong, Jr. (Cathy), daughter, Gabrielle Perrell (Andrew), brother, James Nifong (Helen), sister, Ellen Reavis, brother, Raymond Nifong (Betty) Grandchildren: Joshua Williard, Ashton Putnam (Todd), Anna Briggs (Trey), Scott Damron, Jr., Aaron Perrell, Nicole Damron, Kara Nifong, Nathan Perrell, Levi Perrell. Great grandchildren: McKenzie Williard, Chandler Briggs. Wiley graduated from North Davidson High School in 1956 and graduated from Forsyth Technical College. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force with an honorable discharge. He retired from General Dynamics. He was one of the first original members of the Midway Town Council. He faithfully attended Faith Church in Midway, which he helped construct. He served there as a deacon, a trustee, youth worker, Sunday School teacher, and went on several mission trips with his church. He loved to farm and farmed all over Midway. He loved growing a garden and being outdoors. He also loved to travel, especially to Germany, where he met the love of his life! Wiley always had a smile to share with others and touched the lives of many people through his faith in Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by many. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12th at 4:00 p.m. at Faith Church in Midway, 1078 Gumtree Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family will receive friends and visitors Monday evening between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Faith Church. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Faith Church, 1078 Gumtree Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to Gideon’s International, Davidson North Camp, P.O. 1598 Welcome, NC 27374. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Road, is assisting the family.
