Wilford Lamar Owens, 85, of Lexington, passed away, Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Lexington Medical Center.
A native of Davidson County, he was born on April 17, 1940, the youngest of 10 children of the late Iven Gerraw Owens and the late Genorah Briggs Owens. He was a proud member of the first graduating class of Central High School in 1958. Wilford was a member of Linwood Methodist Church. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army. During his working career he devoted 28 years of service to the South Lexington Supermarket. Prior to retirement, he worked at North Davidson Middle School for 10 years as a custodian.
Wilford was a very kindhearted and was always looking for ways to help others. His family was his top priority, even as an adult he stayed close to his siblings. The family nicknamed the area he lived in “Owensville”, because he and many of his siblings lived in the same small area. He never met a stranger, and many of his friends became family to him. Wilford loved his dogs and enjoyed riding his motorcycle as long as his health allowed. He was also an enthusiastic fan of Jimmy Buffet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Olin Owens, Ralph Owens, Kermit Owens, Hulin Owens, Horace Owen, Occie Alley, Genevieve “Vee” Craver, Opal Rowe, and Letha Shoaf.
Left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Rita Touchstone Owens; son, Michael Owens (Kiley) of Lexington; daughter, Amy Allred (Patrick) of Lexington; grandchildren, Parker Allred, Hatley Allred, Jenna Owens, and Emily Owens; and sister-in-law, Barbara Owen.
A funeral service honoring Wilford’s life will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the chapel of Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington with Rev. Cindy L. Ramirez officiating. Burial will be private at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM – 3:45 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Patricia Koontz, Joann McDowell, and Lukas Lookabill for the exceptional care and compassion that they have given to Wilford over the last several years. You’ all have become a cherished member of our family, and words can never express just how much we appreciate you. Also a special thank you to our spirit sister and Dad's great-niece, Ginger Sliwa for her love and support.
