William "Bill" Nelson Battle

William “Bill” Nelson Battle age 81 passed away peacefully Saturday morning at his home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at 11:00 AM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel with Pastor Avery Varnadore officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel and other times at the home. Bill was born in in Cherokee County on November 29, 1930 to Shirley D. and Nanny Raxter Battle. He was a retired fabricator with Binnings Products. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1960 and traveled the US with pipeline construction. He was of Baptist faith. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Battle. Surviving are his wife Lucy Everhart Battle of the home; one son, Keith Battle of Welcome; one daughter, Cindy Carpenter and husband Greg of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Catherine Coffee and Louise Heath both of Arkansas; three grandchildren, David Battle and wife Amy of Welcome, Misty Reid and husband Ben of AZ, Marc Carpenter of Harrisburg, VA; five great grand-children, Noah, Krystal, Greggory, Makayla and Davin. Memorials may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, General Fund, 2922 Bethesda Road, Lexington, NC 27292. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
