William “Bill” Taft Nifong, 72 of Friendship Church Road, Lexington died Thursday evening at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after a serious illness of three months.
Mr. Nifong was born August 3, 1934 in Davidson County to Walter Nifong and Addie Everhart Nifong. Mr. Nifong worked in construction as a self-employed carpenter. He loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Jones Nifong, a son John Thomas Perrell, a brother Albert Nifong, and sisters Edna Mae Head and Pauline Head.
Mr. Nifong is survived by; a son Tim Nifong and special daughter in law Annette of Lexington, a step-son Odell Perrell and wife Betty of Yadkinville; a step-daughter Legena Forrest of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter Hannah Nifong; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a brother Franklin Eugene Nifong of Winston-Salem, and three sisters Margaret Lanier and husband Joe of Advance, Wilma Cockman and husband Hubert, and Martha Perryman all of Winston-Salem.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday in the Davidson Funeral Home – Hickory Tree Chapel, with Rev. Michael Gates officiating. Burial will follow at Reedy Creek Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home, and at other times at 364 Friendship Church Road.
