William Reid Black, 84, of Black Sawmill Road, Lexington passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Hinkle Hospice House. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 23, 2016 at Pilgrim Reformed Church with the Rev. Richard Moore and Dr. David Kolb officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington. Mr. Black was born February 3, 1932 in Charles City County, VA to John Raymond & Irene Essick Black. He was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Church and a 1950 graduate of Welcome High School. Reid was self-employed as a logger and sawmill operator, learning the sawmill operation from his grandfather, William Avery Essick. Retiring at the age of 76, he had a tremendous work ethic with the drive to stay busy until the end of his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two son-in-laws, Brad Leonard and Steve Lewis. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Peggy Sink Black, of the home; son Randall Reid Black (Lucinda); daughters Kathy Lewis, Teresa Sink (Keith) and Linda Leonard; grandchildren Jonathan Reid Ray (Beth), Stephanie Mabe, Jordan Leonard (Whitney), Ashley Keyser (David), Cameron Black (fiancé Tori), Lauren Black and Brandon Leonard; great-grandchildren Avery and Hailey Ray, Layla and Lake Mabe, Audrey and Shelby Keyser, Ollie Kate and Sula Leonard; brother Larry Eugene Black.
