William Christopher Chesson, Jr., of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away into the loving arms of his heavenly father at the age of 32.
William lived a life filled with joy, curiosity, laughter, and love. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for bringing smiles to those around him. Outgoing, affectionate, and loving, William's presence brightened every room he entered.
William had an enormous appetite for life—and for food. Family and friends often marveled at his ability to enjoy a hearty meal without ever gaining a pound. He delighted in the simple pleasures that made life exciting: watching fire trucks and steam trains, dancing to music, and enthusiastically encouraging every passing truck, train, or vehicle to sound its horn. Few things made him happier than hearing a friendly blast in response.
Known for his playful spirit, William had a habit of greeting friends and family with a gentle pat on the rear-end and was always eager to "take inventory" of whatever treasures might be hiding in their pockets. His mischievous sense of humor and lighthearted antics were lovingly attributed to the influence of his special Uncle Chuck Young, Uncle John B. Robertson, and Cousin Jonathan Chesson, who undoubtedly helped nurture his playful nature.
William attended South Lexington Developmental Center, Stoner-Thomas School, East Rowan High School, and graduated from Davie High School. Throughout his life, he formed meaningful friendships and connections within each of these communities. He was also a proud volunteer with the Civitan Club, where he enjoyed serving others and being part of a community that meant so much to him.
Above all, William cherished the people in his life. He taught those around him lessons in unconditional love, acceptance, patience, and finding joy in everyday moments. His laughter was contagious, his affection was genuine, and his ability to make others feel special was a gift that will not be forgotten.
William is survived by his parents, Dale-Manning Starbuck Robertson Chesson, and, William Christopher Chesson, Sr., both of Lexington, North Carolina; his brother, Christopher Battle Chesson of Budapest, Hungary; his grandfather, William H. "Buddy" Chesson of Lexington, North Carolina; and his grandmothers, Polly K. Starbuck Robertson and Dottie B. Robertson, both of Raleigh, North Carolina. William is also survived by his devoted family of uncles and aunts, John B. and Elizabeth Robertson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Rebecca Chesson, Richard and Patricia Chesson of Lexington, North Carolina, Charles T. and Cynthia Chesson Young of Clemmons, North Carolina, and his large family of beloved cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara D. Chesson of Lexington, North Carolina, and his grandfather, Battle M. Robertson of Raleigh, North Carolina.
William leaves behind countless relatives, friends, caregivers, teachers, and community members whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Though his time here was far too short, the love, laughter, and happiness he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington on Thursday, June 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of William’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Lexington on Friday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a brief graveside dedication. Friends may also visit the family at their home at other times.
In remembering William, his family asks everyone to honor him by sharing a smile, enjoying a favorite meal, dancing to a beloved song, waving at a passing train, or encouraging a truck driver to blow the horn—simple joys that William embraced wholeheartedly every day of his life. Memorials may be made to William’s favorite charity, Zootastic Park, 448 Pilch Rd., Troutman, NC 28166 (www.zootasticpark.com).
"To know William was to be loved by William, and that love will endure forever." William will be deeply missed.
