William “Bill” Cunningham, 79, passed away peacefully, Friday, December 27th, 2024, at his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Loflin Cunningham, his daughter, Kathryn Cunningham Jamir (Akum), his brothers James Clude Cunningham and Richard Doyle Cunningham (Jeannette), special cousin Myrtle “Tooty” Brant, special friend Ernie Clifton and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his son, William Gregory Cunningham, his parents William Doyle Cunningham and Mollie Hamlet Cunningham, his sisters Araina Cunningham Boggs (Michael) and Victoria Cunningham Gray (Michael).
Bill had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of Rockingham Lake Fishing Club in Reidsville, North Carolina where he served as Vice President and then President for several years.
Bill was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina, and was a longtime resident of Winston-Salem and Reidsville. Bill met his wife, Carolyn Loflin at Ragsdale High in Jamestown, North Carolina and married in 1963. In 1966, he joined North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and retired from the NCDOT in 1999.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, 828 Hickory Tree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. The service will be officiated by Pastor David Hedrick. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, 1730 W. English Rd, High Point, North Carolina 27262.
