William Grant Darnell

William Grant Darnell age 83 passed away Sunday morning, March 24, 2013 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, at First Baptist Church of Welcome with the Rev. Mark Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. William was born January 2, 1930 in Franklin County, Illinois to Dallas Nolan & Myrtle Jones Darnell. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome, served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired from RJ Reynolds and was a school bus driver. His parents, brother, Glenn Darnell, sisters, Geraldine Bolen, Eva Ryan, and Dorothy Todd preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Sarah (Chris) Reid Darnell of the home; two sisters, Betty Smith and Jean Fear ; brother-in-law Bill Trantham (Pansy); sisters-in law, Kathryn Forrest, Rachel Turner and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to First Baptist Church of Welcome, P. O. Box 269, Welcome, NC 27374 and Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
