William Edward Heitman, 82, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving family gathered around him.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Wesley Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Barbee officiating.
Ed was born on September 8, 1942, in Davidson County, to the late Zula Leonard Swing and was raised by her and his stepfather, Early Junior Swing.
Upon graduating high school, he proudly served his country by joining the United States Army completing a tour in Vietnam. He later went to work as a truck driver, transporting cargo across the Eastern Seaboard. His love for traveling reached farther than only his career, as he and his family enjoyed vacationing in new places, but their favorite locale was Myrtle Beach.
Ed loved trucks and cars and had a passion for keeping them pristine. The car show was a much-loved past time which he and his wife, Sherry, enjoyed together. It reminded them of when they first met many years ago while cruising Main Street. They walked hand in hand together throughout life and when you saw one, you saw the other, whether it was running errands, visiting with family, or just watching his favorite Westerns.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kara Heitman Chase.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Sherry, of the home; sons, Eddie Heitman (Tina), of Lexington, and Brice Heitman (Lindsay), of Winston Salem; sister, Gloria Tofano (Dennis), of Lenoir; grandchildren, Ty Heitman, Isabel Heitman, and Leah Heitman; niece, Michele Flowers; cousin, Lawrence Lanier; and precious fur baby, Miss Kitty.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be donated in his name to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
