It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Daren” Helms, who peacefully departed from this world on July 23, 2025, in Thomasville. Born on July 11, 1969, Daren lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures.
Daren's journey through life was marked by a unique blend of warmth, generosity, and a genuine love for connecting with others. He was known for his infectious ability to make people laugh and smile, and he possessed a remarkable talent for turning acquaintances into lifelong friends. Daren truly never met a stranger, and his welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His heart was as vast as the open sea, always ready to offer kindness and support to those in need. He was an old soul, carrying with him a depth of wisdom and a perspective that enriched the lives of all who knew him.
His true passions lay outside the confines of work. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy in the tranquility of the water. He loved being outdoors, whether casting a line, enjoying the beauty of nature, or simply soaking up the sun. These moments of connection with the natural world brought him immense peace and happiness. His love for classic rock music was another defining aspect of his personality, and he often shared his favorite tunes with those around him, creating an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life Gina Helms Kuerth. Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Faye Wells (Don Rector), Larry Helms (Vicki), his children Chris Helms (Nadia), Rachel Breedlove (Brandon), his grandchildren, Benjamin, Maverick, Hendrix, Bridget, Grayson, Dean, and Zoey, and his brother Michael Helms (Tammy Volk).
A memorial service honoring his life will be held Wednesday July 30th, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel at 3:00 PM. The family will receive from from 2:00 PM- 3:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to No Kid Hungry 1030 15th St NW Ste 1100W, Washington, DC 20005.
Though the pain of his absence is profound, the memories of his love, laughter, and unwavering kindness will forever remain etched in the hearts of his loved ones. Daren’s legacy of making people laugh and smile, his generous heart, and his ability to connect with others will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
