William Vanhoy Hines, 84, of Ward Curry Road, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville after declining health of five years.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 19 at Becks Reformed Church, by the Revs. James Byers and Gerald Sanders. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mr. Hines was born February 9, 1929 in Davidson County to William Howard Hines and Ida Velna Burkhart Hines. He retired from United Furniture Company after 36 years and later from Central Lumber Company. He was a lifetime member of Becks Reformed Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3074. He was also past-president and longtime member of the Uncle Jim Sportsman Club. His sons, Jeff Hines and William Cloys Hines, and his daughter, Mary Margaret Younts, preceded him in death as well as his brother, Jimmy Hines.
Surviving are his wife, Margie Hudspeth Hines, whom he married on December 3, 1949, of the home; his daughter, Brenda Davis and husband, Danny, of Statesville; his sisters, Betty Varner and Barbara Owen, both of Lexington; his grandchildren, Gary Davis and wife, Melissa, Chris Davis and wife, Misty, Jennifer Ryan and husband, Mitch, Zack Hines and wife, Christen, Alex Hines, Andy Younts, and wife, Melissa, Stefanie Lanier and husband, Billy, and Matthew Younts and wife, Jessica; his great grandchildren, Cullen Davis, Maddie Davis, Leah Davis, Kaitlyn Lanier, Claire Younts, Samantha Massey, Paul James Massey, Abel Costilla, Izayah Holden, Alexander Ryan, Samantha Ryan, Cullen Hines and Noah Hines.
