William Robert Horney 78 of Winston Salem passed away Monday July 3, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be 8:00 pm Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel conducted by Dr. Gary Berry and Rev. Avery Varnadore and burial Friday 2:00 pm at Johnson Cemetery, Crossnore NC. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm prior to the service and at other times at the home.
Mr. Horney was born May 21, 1939 in Banner Elk, son of the late Richard Franklin Horney and Rena Victoria Cook Horney. He honorably served his country in The US Army stationed in Germany and Ft. Hood Texas. Joe retired in 1997 from ABF Freight in Kernersville. After a 25 year career in truck driving, he enjoyed several years driving tour buses. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Horney and Rev. Richard Horney Jr..
Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Sandra Hodges Horney of the home. His son and daughter in law, Mike and Diane Horney of Cornelius, daughter and son in law, Shiela and Jim Bailey of Raleigh, son and daughter in law, Steve and Jen VonCanon of Havre de Grace MD. and son and daughter in law, Bill and Tina Voncanon of Charlotte, Grandchildren: Kimberly Hardin, Nicholas VonCanon, Eric Hardin, Tabatha Duckworth, Tyler VonCanon , Matthew Mancino, Cameron VonCanon, Diana Stafford, and Emma VonCanon. Brothers: Charles Horney of Marion and David Horney of Monroe. Sisters: Lucille Carpenter of Banner Elk, Betty Jean Burleson of Newland, Phyllis Nance and Loyce Deaton both of Huntersville and Sarah Stokes of Indian Trail.
