William Arthur Mabry, 85 of Spruce Street, Lexington, died Sunday March 8, 2009 in the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Center Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Brian Alexander, Lamar Moore and Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial will be at 3:00PM at Porter Baptist Church Cemetery in Porter, NC.
Mr. Mabry was born in Stanly County on December 31, 1923 to James Fred Mabry and Rosette “Rosa” Hinson Mabry. He was retired from Gordon Veneer and a member of Center Hill Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and Deacon Chairman and a Sunday school teacher. He served in the US Army during WWII in the 35th Division 320 Infantry and the 341st Quartermaster Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Swaringen Mabry of the home, sons Harold Mabry and wife Glenda and Charles Mabry and wife Deborah, daughter, Ann Smith and husband Larry all of Lexington, brothers Vaughn Mabry and wife Ruth, Kent Mabry and wife Verla, Lee Mabry and wife Rebecca all of Norwood and Ray Mabry and wife Henriette of Albemarle and sister, Ferol Maness and husband Robert of Norwood. Six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Davidson Funeral Home.
