William Candler Queen

William Candler Queen, age 86 of Helmstetler Rd, Lexington NC died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 in Landmark Estates of Winston-Salem.    A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 21, 2010 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Sechrest and Rev. Patrick DeVane officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with Military Rites by VFW Post 3074.   The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 12:30 pm Saturday just prior to the service at the funeral home.   Mr. Queen was born January 15, 1924 in Jackson County to William Baxter Queen and Pearlie Mae Franklin Queen.  He was a member of Rolling Heights Baptist Church and a retired employee of Frank IX and Sons. Mr. Queen was a WWII Army veteran, and a POW, was member of VFW Post 3074, Amvets, American Legion Post 8, and Disabled Veterans of America.  Was awarded the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star.  Preceding him in death was his parents, his wife, Mary Hazel Yarbrough Queen, and his second wife, Vivian Ferrell Queen, two brothers, Homer Cecil Queen and Henry Hasten Queen.   Surviving are a son, Leslie Baxter Queen and wife, Susan of Waldorph, Maryland; a daughter, Brenda Jeanette Queen Davis of Jamestown, NC, three grandchildren, Meredith Lindsay Queen, Kara Queen both of Maryland, Caitlin Olivia Davis of Jamestown, and a brother, Thurman Queen and wife, Lucille of West Virginia.   Memorials may be directed to Rolling Heights Baptist Church, 228 Pineland Ave., Lexington, NC 27295     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
