William Robbins

October 12, 1945 — November 3, 2025

Lexington

William Howard Robbins, 80, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully after a long illness on November 3, 2025 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC. Following his wishes, no viewing, visitation or services are planned.

He was born October 12, 1945 in Rocky Mount, NC to Calvin and Sue Robbins. He graduated from Benvenue High School where he claimed the nickname “Benvenue Bull” because of his notable football history there.

He spent many years of his adult life in the asphalt and concrete paving industry in Rocky Mount, Charlotte, High Point and Raleigh holding many positions as equipment operator, customer service, plant foreman, plant manager and estimating and sales until his retirement in 2016.

He enjoyed hunting, dog training for obedience and retrieving, especially with Luke, his beloved golden retriever, and he enjoyed playing golf with his friends. Later in life, especially after his retirement, he renewed his interest in photography with his main subjects being family members, hummingbirds and other birds, flowers, mushrooms and other still life. He was always the first to admit he was never very good with computers, so he left the photo editing to his wife. He loved spending time with his family. You could always find him in front of the television for good college or professional football games, as well as PGA golf tournaments.

Bill was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn, of the home, his daughters Michael Robbins Owen (Michael) of Hampstead, NC, Ellen Robbins Peterson (Jeremy) of Lexington, NC, Molly Robbins Robertson (Brad) of Holly Springs, NC, sister-in-law Elizabeth (Libba) Robbins, and his four grandchildren: Lucas, Annmarie, Lily, Everly, and great-granddaughter Ava. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He leaves behind his constant friends, Phil and Carol Boone, George and Stephanie Ramey and Paul Whitley, all of Rocky Mount, NC, and his loyal dog, Dottie.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Niki and Bobby Moss, his sister Wendi Greene, his brother, Thomas Calvin (Robbie) Robbins, Jr., a step-sister Robyn Amerson, step-mother Betty Robbins and a grandson, Jacob Holmes.

Bill will always be remembered for his “dad jokes,” his constant support for his wife, daughters and friends, some of his best photographs and his high school years as the “Benvenue Bull.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lexington, NC or Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC.
